Singaporean's embarrassment

A group of 6 tourists had been to Newton Food Centre for dinner last Saturday evening. When they reach the food centre, it was already packed. They had a hard time finding a table when they reach there. That is when a guy approach them and said that they had a table of six for them. So the tourists thought why not and order dishes from them.

The tourists had initially plan to order four tiger prawns, but the stall assistant suggested that eight prawns would be better for a party of six. As the man was 'aggressive and pushy' as describe by one of the tourists, they had taken up the suggestion of the stall assistant.

So the order was over and above half-chicken, prawn, crab, baby squid, 5 large bottles of tiger beer, drinks and a bun. However, when the order arrived, two plates of stingray were also put on the table. When asked to take the stingray items away, the man appeared 'a bit put off'.

When they had finished eating, the same man told them that the bill was $491. The group was surprised by the sum and asked for an itemised bill. When the man returned with the bill, he was accompanied by three or four men.

As this was their first night in Singapore, they did not want to create a scene, so they just paid the bill. They then took out a $500 and handed to them. To their surprise, the stall assistant just pocketed the change of $9.

This is really an embarrassment to all Singaporean out there. If i were to spend close to 500bucks in a food centre, i might as well go to those high class restaurants. And how can they pocket 9bucks from the tourists? I know nowaday recession period, but are they really so hard up on money? Apparently, if the tourists did not give you the tips, it meant that your service is jus not up to standard. Furthermore, i bet they are a bunch of gangsters. Read this. "When the man returned with the bill, he was accompanied by three or four men. " Isn't this just like the act of gangsters?
